Greenbuild 2026 NYPH Tour - Alloy Block & State Street: Scaling Passive House from Retrofit to High-Rise

Explore the evolution of sustainable design across time and scale, from a late 19th-century townhouse retrofit in Brooklyn, the birthplace of Passive House design in New York City, to the city's first all-electric residential tower and the proposed world's tallest Passive House project. This tour will showcase how innovative building strategies support low carbon development, resilience, and community centered urban growth.
Participants will visit a townhouse that achieved Passive House EnerPHit certification in 2018 and features continuous insulation, airtight construction, triple glazed windows, solar panels, induction cooking, heat pump systems, energy recovery ventilation, a green roof, and reclaimed wood flooring. The tour will continue to the Alloy Block where participants will visit the site of the world's tallest Passive House mixed-use tower, the exterior of two schools designed to Passive House standards, and the interior of an all-electric skyscraper. Together, these projects demonstrate the future of sustainable living.
