It has long been clear that existing buildings must become compatible with a climate-friendly energy system in the coming decades. We need to deeply retrofit buildings while electrifying heating in order to curb the enormous energy demand caused by the building stock. Dr. Jürgen Schnieders explains how to integrate heat pumps in the retrofitting process in a financially sound and climate-friendly way and why we will never regret taking every opportunity to substantially improve thermal insulation. Typical pitfalls on the way to an efficient heat pump operation will also be discussed.
